NURSERY nurse Jack Hamblin is proving a hit with the children at a North East nursery after completing training with work-based learning provider Rainbow Training.
Jack Hamblin, 18, of Whitley Bay, completed his NVQ level 2 in Children’s Care, Learning and Development with Rainbow Training in January and now works at the Children’s Choice nursery in Monkseaton.
After leaving school at 16, he found the multi accredited provider through his local Connexions service, which offers help and advice for 16 to 19 year olds.
Rainbow Training, which tailors its programmes to meet the individual learner’s needs, offers hope for people with few academic qualifications and can help them onto the first rung of the apprenticeship ladder, to vocational training or to other employment-based opportunities.
Rainbow Training assessor Anne Marie Curtiss said: “Jack was very enthusiastic from the word ‘go’ and we got on really well with him. He was great with the kids, and so patient with them, too.
“It’s so good to see Jack achieve his goal, despite a bit of a shaky start. We tailored the training so we could work with Jack one to one and by the end of the course, he really came into his own - especially with the practical elements.”
Jack said: “The staff at Rainbow Training were always so supportive, especially my assessor, Anne Marie. They were a real help, because I found the course hard at the start.
“I’m proud of working in the childcare profession and none of my friends think it is strange that I am a male in this field. I’m treated the same as all the other staff at the nursery.”
“I especially like working with the older children, as I can be really interactive with them when they’re playing.”
Rainbow Training also offers courses in Leadership Training, Health and Social Care, Cleaning and Support Services, Customer Service and Business Administration, providing training throughout Newcastle, Gateshead, Darlington, Middlesbrough and the rest of Tees Valley.
